Welcome to the Metro Parks Photo Club! We are a photography club associated with the Metro Parks Serving Summit County. We meet at the Nature Realm in Akron, OH and have Photo Walks in and around the Akron area regularly. We invite you to check out our schedule of events and join us if you have an interest in photography and nature!
The assignment topic due for the January 2012 meeting is “LIGHT”.

This can be defined many different ways. Use your imagination and show us how you would define “Light” in a photograph.
Some suggestions/ideas have been: Holiday Lights, Lightbulbs, Light reflections
We ask that you choose 3-4 photos (maximum) and be prepared to discuss the photographs – how, where, when, settings (if applicable) and/or why you chose this to represent those photos as “Light”.
Photos can be digital or print.
Assignments will not be judged or awarded prizes – instead we are focusing on challenging ourselves and our skills and sharing our outcomes as a group.
We look forward to seeing you – and your photos – in the new year!
The goals of our club are to continue to learn from one another with regards to both the technical aspects of photography (for example, technique, composition, color, etc.) as well as sharing our knowledge and experiences of photographing within the MetroParks and surrounding areas. We have members ranging from 0 – 30+ years of experience, so there is no shortage of knowledge within the club.
With that being said, the officers of the club would like to open the floor to our members for suggestions regarding the following topics:
Photo “Assignments”
These could be various subjects, landscapes, or techniques that may be of interest to you
Potential Speakers/Presenters
People to come to the monthly meetings and give a presentation of a specific topic
Photo Walk locations or places
Places or events that would make for enticing photography to the group
If you have suggestions for ANY of the above topics – feel free to email them to:
Club email – metroparksphoto@gmail.com
President Dave Wertz – dwertz@neo.rr.com
Treasurer Carla McDonald – arminta88@hotmail.com
Every suggestion will be taken into consideration!

On Monday, October 10th we had another one of our Member’s Nights where club members bring in photos to share. Click here to see an album of some of the photos.
The Metroparks Photo Club started back up Monday night with our annual dinner after a few months off. It was great to see everybody again and I can’t wait to get out on some photo walks with the club. This Saturday we will have a photo walk at the Akron Zoo. We will meet at 10:00 am and individuals are responsible for there own admission. Even if you’re not a member, feel free to come join us Saturday and see what we’re all about!
Rob Vaughn presented Monday night and the program was on Glacier National Park. If you missed the meeting you can still see many of the photos here, and the video here.

Sometimes it’s worth it to brave the cold, snow, and ice in Ohio! We were rewarded with a real winter wonderland on our photo walk January 15th at Blue Hen Falls in the Cuyahoga Valley NP.
Our club’s first Photo Scavenger Hunt was a big success! We had five categories of photos that we were to try and capture; photo that includes yourself, good use of color, architectural detail, something on a leaf, and something that opens and closes.
We had a lot of participation and some really amazing and creative photos! Thank you to Dick Pratt for coming up with this idea and giving us the categories. Also, I special thanks to those who volunteered to be judges for the contest. And congratulations to the winners in each category!

I’m still working on getting the content back up on the website.
We’ve had some issues with our site so I am rebuilding it from scratch. Should have it back up soon.
Rob
Although the schedule for next year is not complete, we discussed several photo walk possibilities including two weekend walks in October. Another walk planned was a city scape shoot in Cleveland in June. The details still have to be worked out. We also began talking about possible programs for 2011. Some members present at the meeting have already volunteered for a program. We hope to wrap up our discussions in the next business meeting in October.
