Welcome to the Metro Parks Photo Club! We are a photography club associated with the Metro Parks Serving Summit County. We meet at the Goodyear Heights Metro Park shelter in Akron, OH and have Photo Walks in and around the Akron area regularly. We invite you to check out our schedule of events and join us if you have an interest in photography and nature!

Ian Adams Presents

Monday night was exciting for two reasons for the MPPC.  For one, we had our first meeting at our new location at the Nature Realm on Smith Road and two, we had special guest, Ian Adams present his Wetlands program to us.  Ian is a nationally known local photographer with many published books.  Ian’s program is called “Wet and Wild – The World of Wetlands”.  This was a great night and I believe everyone thoroughly enjoyed Ian’s program which was both educational and had extraordinary photography throughout!  If you have a chance to see one of Ian’s programs or participate in one of his workshops, I highly recommend it!

Member’s Night

We had our member’s photos presentation on April 12th.  On member’s night, club members can bring up to 10 photos to show.  We had a lot of excellent photography that night!  I have posted some of those photos to a new gallery here.

Boxing Photography 101

Melinda Rinehart gave a a very informative presentation on Boxing Photography at our last meeting.  She has been doing this for many years and really has the eye for what make an interesting boxing photograph and has the technical skills to make it happen.  Melinda shared her photos with us and and gave some very practical tips on how to shoot under some challenging conditions.  Thanks Melinda!

Worden's Ledges Photo Walk

Worden’s Ledges was very interesting experience. The snow added some need contrast to what could have been some dull photography conditions.  This location is in the Hinckley Reservation.  What is most interesting about this area are the carvings in the rocks and cliffs.

Urban Exploration

I will be presenting tonight’s program entitled “Urban Exploration”.  To me UX involves finding the beauty in the abandoned and decaying structures in our urban and rural environments.  I also think it’s a why to preserve history as these structures either slowly decay or are demolished for new construction or safety.  Our meeting is at the Goodyear Heights Metro Park shelter at 7:30pm.

New Look!

We have updated our look!  Welcome to the re-designed website of the Metro Parks Photo Club.

Camp Christopher Walk

Our photo walk at Camp Christopher on Nov. 14 went very well.  Thanks to Maureen McGinty of the Metro Parks we got exclusive access to this interesting location near the Cuyahoga Valley.  The weather was perfect and the turnout was one of the best all year!
